If there is Exercise 1 and Exercise 2 in a lesson, the numbering for the questions restarts at 1 for each Exercise section. I think it makes more sense to have the numbering continue throughout the entire lesson so that you can easily ask about "Question 2 from lesson X" and there is only one question that is labelled as 2.
