Save as new record

I want a button "Save as new record" or "Clone Record" from an extra button-link column table in addition to edit and delete. The form must be opens in new record mode with some fields prefilled based on the existing record. This is an interesting feature that is emerged.

Hi,

In your jtable definition create a new field that is not part of the record, say cloneRecord. Give the field a title "Save As New Record", give it a type checkbox, and properties list=false, create=false, edit=true.
It will not appear in the table, nor in Add Record Dialog box, but it will in the Edit Record Dialog. If a user then clicks the checkbox, it will be passed to the server.

On the server, if the POST data contains cloneRecord then the user wants a clone not a new record.

Thank you. I think we are close. After new thoughts it is better to open an Add Record Dialog box with fields pre-filled. The are reason for this: there are fields that has to do with current user and current datetime which should not have the values ​​of the existing record

So base on your response I think there should be a column with a "Clone Record" button that opens "Add New Record" with some fields pre-filled.

That's your design decision, I was just answering the question posed.
Remember you can set static default values using the jtable field option defaultValue. If you need to set dynamic data in the dialog , e.g. timestamp, used the formCreated: event

...but it turns out that it's probably impossible without completely changing jtable. Something I'm not willing to do if it means taking the same amount of time and effort as building something from scratch

While cloning a record requires some changes, jtable has the main code (in the edit-form) ready. Adding a clone-feature is probably just some hours of work. Feel free to open a feature request on the maintained fork: https://github.com/liedekef/jtable
