Getting Started

This page walks you through everything from your first crafting session to producing your first Drive-crafted item.

Step 1 Craft a Drive and a Cube

Research requires two key items:

  • A Metadata Drive stores the recipe ID that research unlocks
  • A Cube acts as the compute medium and stays in the Research Station throughout

For your first research, target the BASIC tier. Craft a Reclaimed Metadata Drive (researchcube:metadata_reclaimed) and a Basic Cube (researchcube:cube_basic). Recipes are viewable in JEI or EMI if installed.

Step 2 Set Up the Research Station

Place a Research Station (researchcube:research_station) and right-click it. Load your items:

  • Slot 0 Reclaimed Metadata Drive
  • Slot 1 Basic Cube
  • Slot 8 A filled Thinking Fluid Bucket (researchcube:thinking_fluid_bucket) to fill the tank

The empty bucket ejects to slot 9. The fluid gauge shows the current level. Full slot layout: Research Station.

Step 3 Choose a Research and Fill Costs

The left panel lists all available research. Locked entries (lock icon) have unmet prerequisites hover to see what is required.

Select a BASIC research such as Basic Circuit and place the required items in the Cost Slots (slots 2–7) as shown in the tooltip.

Step 4 Start Research

Once all requirements are met the Start button becomes active. Click it:

  • Items and fluid are consumed immediately
  • A progress bar fills from 0% to 100%
  • Click Stop/Cancel at any time to abort and get items and fluid back

When the bar completes, a recipe from the research's pool is imprinted onto the Drive by weighted random selection. Remove the Drive from slot 0.

Step 5 Craft with the Drive Crafting Table

Place a Drive Crafting Table (researchcube:drive_crafting_table) and right-click it. Put the imprinted Drive anywhere in the 3×3 grid, add the required ingredients, and take the output. The Drive stays in the grid and can be reused.

Congratulations that's the core Research Cube loop!
